ARTHRITIS

Arthritis can cause joint pain, stiffness and difficulty with everyday activities. At FITE Health Physiotherapy in Chester-le-Street, we help you build a manageable plan to improve movement, strength and confidence.

We tailor exercise and activity advice to the joints involved, your symptoms and your medical care. Physiotherapy can support function and self-management alongside treatment from your GP or specialist.

Your goals may include walking more comfortably, managing stairs, staying active or returning to exercise. Early morning and evening appointments are available.

Physiotherapist examining knee movement during an arthritis assessment

We review your symptoms, medical history, diagnosis and current treatment. Assessment may include joint movement, muscle strength, walking, balance and everyday tasks.

We agree realistic goals and a personalised exercise programme, with advice on pacing activity and managing flare-ups. New or unexplained joint swelling may need medical assessment.

Symptoms and Self-management

Arthritis may cause pain, stiffness, reduced movement and difficulty with tasks such as walking, stairs or gripping. Your assessment considers the joints affected and the type of arthritis.

We help you find a sustainable balance of exercise, activity and recovery. Physiotherapy supports function and symptom management; it does not cure arthritis.

Seek urgent medical advice for a suddenly hot, swollen joint, especially with fever or feeling unwell. New or worsening symptoms should be reviewed by your medical team.

Our Treatment Approach

ASSESS

Every plan starts with a full assessment of your symptoms, movement, strength, and history. We take the time to properly understand your pain and your goals, so we can identify the real cause, not just treat the symptoms.

TREAT

We find the cause of your symptoms and provide targeted treatment to ease pain and improve mobility. It includes hands-on techniques like joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, massage and muscle release, used alongside exercise rather than instead of it.

EDUCATE

We help you understand your condition, so you have the knowledge to manage it yourself.

REBUILD

Your programme may include joint mobility, progressive strengthening, balance and general fitness. We adjust exercise to your symptoms and goals, with practical advice on pacing and staying active.

PREVENT

We work on your movement, strength, and habits to lower the risk of it happening again.
