LIGAMENT INJURIES

Ligament injuries can cause pain, swelling and a feeling of instability after a twist, fall or sporting injury. At FITE Health Physiotherapy in Chester-le-Street, we assess the joint and build a rehabilitation plan around your recovery.

We consider movement, strength, stability and your work or sporting demands. Your plan may include progressive loading, balance exercises and a staged return to activity.

Where injury severity or symptoms require further medical assessment, we advise appropriate next steps. Early morning and evening appointments are available.

Physiotherapist assessing a patient’s knee during ligament rehabilitation

We review the injury mechanism, swelling, instability, previous injuries and the tasks you want to return to. Assessment may include joint movement, strength, stability and balance.

Your rehabilitation is tailored to the injured ligament, stage of healing and any medical or surgical advice. We review progress before increasing activity demands.

Ligament Injuries We Assess

Ankle Sprains

Rehabilitation addresses movement, strength and balance before progressing to running and changes of direction.

Knee Ligament Injuries

We assess injuries involving the ACL, MCL or other knee ligaments and support rehabilitation following conservative or surgical treatment.

Joint Stability

Targeted strength and movement control help rebuild confidence for daily activity and sport.

Return to Sport

Progression may include landing, agility and sport-specific tasks when appropriate to your injury.

Symptoms and Recovery

Ligament injuries may cause swelling, bruising, pain, restricted movement or giving way. Recovery varies with severity and the joint involved.

Seek urgent medical advice for major swelling, deformity, inability to bear weight, numbness or a cold limb. Recurrent instability or a locked joint also needs assessment.

We agree manageable activity goals and progress rehabilitation towards your everyday and sporting demands.

Our Treatment Approach

ASSESS

Every plan starts with a full assessment of your symptoms, movement, strength, and history. We take the time to properly understand your pain and your goals, so we can identify the real cause, not just treat the symptoms.

TREAT

We find the cause of your symptoms and provide targeted treatment to ease pain and improve mobility. It includes hands-on techniques like joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, massage and muscle release, used alongside exercise rather than instead of it.

EDUCATE

We help you understand your condition, so you have the knowledge to manage it yourself.

REBUILD

Your programme progresses through joint movement, strengthening, balance and control. Running, jumping and changes of direction are introduced according to your recovery and goals.

PREVENT

We work on your movement, strength, and habits to lower the risk of it happening again.
