MUSCLE TEARS / SPRAINS

Muscle and soft tissue injuries can cause pain, swelling and difficulty with movement, work or sport. At FITE Health Physiotherapy in Chester-le-Street, we assess your injury and build a rehabilitation plan around your recovery and goals.

A muscle strain affects muscle or tendon, while a sprain affects a ligament. We explain the findings and help you progress from early recovery to strength and everyday activity.

Your plan may include activity advice, graded movement and progressive loading. Early morning and evening appointments are available.

We review how the injury happened, your symptoms, previous injuries and the activities you want to return to.

Assessment may include movement, strength, swelling, tenderness and functional tasks. If a fracture or major tear is suspected, we advise appropriate medical assessment.

Rehabilitation is progressed according to your symptoms, healing and function.

Soft Tissue Injuries We Assess

Muscle Strains and Tears

These may follow sprinting, lifting or sudden stretching. Rehabilitation rebuilds movement, strength and tolerance to activity.

Calf, Hamstring and Thigh Injuries

We tailor loading and return-to-running or sporting tasks to the injured muscle and your goals.

Sprains

Ligament injuries may follow twisting or falls. Rehabilitation considers joint movement, stability and strength.

Return to Sport

Progression can include balance, strength, acceleration and sport-specific drills when appropriate.

Symptoms and Recovery

Pain, tenderness, swelling, bruising and weakness may follow a strain or sprain. Recovery depends on the tissue involved and the severity of injury.

Seek urgent medical advice for severe or worsening pain, major swelling, inability to bear weight or use the injured area, deformity, numbness or a cold limb.

We help you manage activity and rebuild capacity, with regular review before returning to demanding work or sport.

Our Treatment Approach

ASSESS

Every plan starts with a full assessment of your symptoms, movement, strength, and history. We take the time to properly understand your pain and your goals, so we can identify the real cause, not just treat the symptoms.

TREAT

We find the cause of your symptoms and provide targeted treatment to ease pain and improve mobility. It includes hands-on techniques like joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, massage and muscle release, used alongside exercise rather than instead of it.

EDUCATE

We help you understand your condition, so you have the knowledge to manage it yourself.

REBUILD

We rebuild strength and tolerance through graded loading, movement and functional exercises. Your programme progresses towards lifting, running and sport-specific tasks as appropriate to your injury.

PREVENT

We work on your movement, strength, and habits to lower the risk of it happening again.
